![]() As an extra bonus to the DVD, a 14-minute interview segment called Bare Witness produced by MTV focuses on the recollections of those who experienced this magical moment in music history, those who produced it and interviews with the band from the day of the taping. This DVD allows fans to experience this performance like never before, including the two songs not originally broadcasted, “Something In The Way” and “Oh Me.” For the purists, also included on this DVD is the original 44 min broadcast version of the show, plus never-before-seen rehearsal performances. While the album of the same name made its first appearance in 1994, and went on to become Nirvana’s second best selling CD of all time, now fans finally get the chance to see the entire, unedited performance with never-before-seen footage on DVD and in Dolby Stereo and 5.1 surround sound mixed by legendary surround mixing engineer Elliot Scheiner. It's a nice bonus for me.44 Minute Broadcast Edit - * Not in broadcast edit The rehearsals make you appreciate the actual performance even more because you can hear the difference and how Cobain poured himself into the live performance. Nirvana Unplugged already provides some of Cobain's commentary but the rehearsal songs provide even more dialogue along with some band interactions. I love that (I really need to buy VH1 storytellers). Not only was the performance top notch but you get to hear David's commentaries and story telling in between songs. David Bowie Glastonbury is a great example. Some of the music I'm most fond of is the recordings that highlight personalities or charisma of the artists. ![]() It is phenomenal on it's own.įinally, the rehearsal addition songs are fantastic. I could care less if it is the best version produced. However, I now have no desire to buy another copy. Before receiving my 2LP copy, I was secretly planning to go buy the purple BG/Pallas at Target. I can't provide a comparison for you to the ORG or BG/Pallas but one person on Discogs claims to own a 2009 ORG copy and said they said may give it a nod over this copy but it's close. It definitely didn't feel like I was getting up frequently to play each side. Anyway, there's a lot of music on each side. This DVD allows fans to experience this performance like never before, including the two songs not originally broadcasted, Something In The Way and Oh Me. I have some other records pressed at 45RPM on 2LP and it does get a little annoying to flip after 3 songs (then I have to question why I'm listening to vinyl if it bothers me to flip a record). There was some audible noise but it all went away after the records were cleaned.Īn early post here mentioned they didn't like the idea of flipping the records more often because this version is on 2LP. They mentioned the same thing except they played it first without cleaning it. I read someone else's comments on Discogs. I always clean new records but sometimes it's visually obvious they need it and that was the case with this album. ![]() Both LPs desperately needed to be cleaned though. The vinyl is heavy, flat and without any audible noise. I realize not everyone cares about the color but I appreciate it especially when records like this were done right. I would equate the marbled vinyl for Nirvana Unplugged with my Alice Cooper Billion Dollar Babies green/orange/yellow marble record. I hate it when they lack creativity in the coloring. I enjoy color vinyl anyway but sometimes companies use a boring solid white or red. The purple and orange vinyl was also done really well. The silver foil on the front of the gatefold sleeve provides some brightness to the cover. The detail in the packaging is immediately noticeable. I received my copy and have to say I'm super pleased with it.
